Food Shopping
Woolies is one of the big supermarket chains in Australia, but don't think
that it is anything like Tescos, Asda, etc... Woolies is very small in
comparison!
You will be able to get most of your daily food stuff requirements from Woolies
(and Coles), but for the other house items that nowadays are prevalent in the likes
of Tesco, you are best to go to places like
KMart or BigW
One good piece of advise that we can give you when it comes to food shopping in
Australia is with your fresh fruit and veg. Australia is rich with sunshine
and the fruit and veg is just as rich and wide-spread. There are so many
independant grocers and farm shops that you should never bother with the like of
Woolies and Coles
Much like Woolies, Coles is another of the big supermarket chains in Australia
Darrell Lea is probably the best know confectioner in Australia. It is
a family owned company and produce a wide range of confectionery from Rocklea Road
to Liquorice.
One thing that we have noticed here in Australia is that the price of chocolate
is alot higher than in the UK. Whereas a Snickers bar is around 50p in
the UK, expect to pay around $2 in Australia. We're not sure why it is
so expensive here, but for you chocolate lovers out there, it might be a bit of a shock.
