Internet

Whilst residential Internet access in Australia is slower than in the UK, there is a good range of service providers around which means reasonable prices and services.  Like alot of service providers in the UK though, here in Australia many packages are metered and only allow a certain amount of traffic per month.  Go over that and you'll be up for a larger bill.  As a rough guide though a basic ADSL2+ package from TPG is priced at around $30 per month (approx. £15)

Most service providers now offer ADSL 2+ services which give good access speeds, depending on your distance from the telephone exchange.  To see where you are in relation to the nearest exchange, ADSL2Exchanges have a website listing all exchanges and show them on Google Maps so you can easily work out the distance.

Like any company offering you a service, there will be a contract period and associated costs if you want to come out of the contract early, so please be sure before you buy.  Be sure to understand any installation costs such as a new modem that supports ADSL 2+ (or what ever standard you decide to purchase) and any costs that might be incurred in connecting you to the internet.  All of the service providers should be able to give you a complete break-down of the costs involved
